Welcome to the Secular Society

The Secular Society was  founded in May 2012 in order to address the issue of church state overlap in Ireland. The Secular Society is founded on the principle of separation of church and state and respect for those of all faiths.

We stand for non discrimination of all people on the basis of religious grounds. Our aims are for equal separation and respect for state institutions and religious institutions.

Our work comprises of independent investigation into breaches of church state separation and lobbying for increased legislation for the clear protection of all faiths within Ireland. We are independent and conduct all meetings and research with transparency publishing all documents into the public domain. Continuing research topics at the moment are the issue of Labyrinths built on University grounds and the issue of abortion in Ireland. Further topics include the irish patronage of schools and the issue of same sex marriage.

  1. Thanks for following! And though I’m across the pond in the crazy United States, land of lunatics and fundamentalists (Eddie Izzard’s quip comes to mind: “What *are* you doing?”), you have my highly sceptical support.

  2. Thanks for the follow! It’s nice to see students taking a secular stance; far too many people just follow along with their parent’s religious views and opinions just because they were raised with it. Nice to intelligence and logic isn’t dead!

  3. Thanks for following my site. I am very much of an Atheist though lately I have been concentrating on American politics. From your perspective we must look a bit funny. To me it is frightening!

    • Wow, fantastic blog fmoart! How lengthy have you ever been running a blog for? you make running a blog look easy. The total look of your site is fantastic, let alone the content!

  4. Thanks for stopping by and also following my blog. I am always pleased (and very much amazed) to see someone from outside of the US actually find my blog. I have a bit of reading to do on your site as on initial glance there are some very compelling views and arguments made. As an long-time atheist, I only see negatives when religion finds its way into state business.

    • Wanna know something crazy? I’m a long time Christian, but I also see only negatives when religion finds its way into state business. No where in Scripture are we commanded to take over the government. We’re supposed to pray for wise leaders, etc, but a state religion NEVER works well. The first question is “whose religion?” Get past that one and it doesn’t get any easier. I’ve had quite a row with several other Christians online about my idea that I will get very upset if my pastor has an adulterous affair, but if the Director of the CIA has one, it’s none of my business. Not a very popular stance in my neck of the woods.

  5. Thanks for the follow. we are in the process of starting up a vibrant secular movement in Kenya. At the moment we are mainly active on social media but are in the process of making a tangible presence one to show we have arrived and to tell peeps it is no longer business as usual.

    • I am glad for commenting to make you know of the amiazng experience my friend’s girl experienced reading the blog. She came to understand several pieces, with the inclusion of how it is like to possess a very effective helping nature to have others with no trouble thoroughly grasp selected complicated topics. You truly did more than readers’ expectations. Thank you for supplying such productive, trusted, educational not to mention cool thoughts on the topic to Kate.

  6. well…i tend to believe in everything…and nothing…all at different times! the only thing is can really believe in is me, i suppose….and everything i can see.
stuff i cant see…how can anyone believe in something thats not there….!

    • Well that’s your opinion. Whether or not there is in fact a god or gods or none at all is purely a personal issue taken by all. However the bigger issues of church state relations should be divorced from the authenticity of the presence of the supernatural. Rather the issue of secularism and the churches should be dealt with in a calm and just manner with respect due on all sides.

      • heck, no….i dont wanna be involved in anything to do with the church…how can it justify itself in the first place, having killed millions during the crusades or via the conquistadores…and then conversting millions around the world by blackmailing them with clothes, food etc….no, not for me…
